| in meiner arbeit entwickle ich systematisch konstruktive farbformen auf der basis mathematischer gesetzmäßigkeiten und den dem sehen eigenen farbtheoretischen prinzipien. diese nur auf sich selbst bezüglichen farben und formen sollen wie sichtbar gestaltete malerische klänge ähnlich der musik erlebt werden. piet van zon, 2004 |

| piet van zon - recent paintings first there is the image seen and then there is the image within, revealed over time through the experience of looking and contemplating a painting. the boundary between the world of the image and that of the viewer defines a moment, an interval marking the transition from perceived notions of reality in one space into the invented reality of another. piet van zon has chosen to construct that invented reality by clearly defining the building blocks of his images; clear colours, either straight or mixed, and mathematically proportioned elements which divide the surface in a highly structured way. these elements redefine the picture plane as a layered surface playing with the notion of depth and advancement, taking us on a cyclical journey through the constructed space of each image. counterpoint between black, white and colour enhances the interplay between elements and their relative spatial orientation, drawing the viewer into the images‘ play with chroma, light and depth. horizontal and vertical elements located within a diamond suggest movement into the space beyond the painting‘s edge imparting a certain architectonic quality, hinting at the potential for the reality of the painted images to become one with the reality of the viewer in the contemplation of their form. nathan cohen london 2004 |
